Activities

  • In January 2014, Smatec supported preparation of a technical proposal for FEL study of a greenfield Bauxite & Alumina project complex in Africa.

  • In March 2014, Smatec collaborated with a global engineering consultant to provide advanced technology solutions to an existing lead-zinc concentrator, partnering with an Indian EPC company.

  • In April 2014, BACS completed a Due Diligence Study of an Australian alumina refinery as part of a consortium comprising Australian, Japanese and Canadian companies. BACS was engaged for technical and commercial review of the current mining, refining and alumina shipment operations. The scope of the review included mining infrastructure, alumina refining process, alumina quality features, energy, materials and port handling capabilities, operating costs, Life of Asset evaluation, operational risk factors and assessment of future operational outlook.

  • In July 2014, BACS was engaged by an emerging Australian bauxite company to assess the resource and its potential for the Chinese market. This market study focused on benchmarking of the resource against competing traded bauxites for low and high temperature refineries including the ‘Sweetening’ process. The scope comprised evaluating the mined-out quality, value-in-use of the resource including assessment of its impurities content and determination of its pricing potential.

  • Currently, Smatec is evaluating the potential for converting an existing open surface copper tailings operation to paste backfill in collaboration with a global engineering company and in close coordination with a tertiary educational institute.
